Effect of air pollution

DUE TO AIR POLLUTION

Point 1:- Outdoor air pollution is one of the major causes of death and disease globally. 4.2 million premature deaths globally are linked to air pollution- mainly from heart disease, lung cancer and acute respiratory infections in children. The killer pollutants are particulate matter (PM), ozone (O,), nitrogen dioxide (NO,) and sulphur dioxide (SO,). PM can penetrate deep into lung passageways and enter the bloodstream causing cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and respiratory impact.

Point 2:- However, air pollution harms not only the heart and lungs; a new study indicates it affects the brain so much that people, especially the elderly, could struggle for words or to complete simple math. Long-term exposure to air pollution severely affects cognition skills, according to the joint study by Yale and Peking Universities and published in the reputed Proceedings of National Academy of Science (PNAS) journal.

Point 3:- "The study found significant reduction in verbal and math skills of people exposed to air pollution over a long duration," said a release sent by the Washington-based International Food Policy Research Institute that conducted the study along with Yale and Peking Universities. "The effect was more pronounced among men than women – and worst among the elderly," it added.

Point 4:- Nearly 32,000 Chinese were surveyed between 2010 and 2014 and their short- and long- term exposures to air pollution were calculated. One of the main authors, Xiaobo Zhang, said the decline was steeper for verbal scores than math scores. Among males, the decline in verbal scores became more pronounced with age, and was greater in those less educated. The Chinese study's findings could hold true for India, where roughly 25 lakh people died in 2015 due to causes arising out of air pollution.

Point 5:- Sunil Dahiya, senior Greenpeace India campaigner, said the impact of air pollution in China is comparable to India. "The trajectory of development for both China and India are similar and hence are the levels and sources of pollution. So, even if the magnitude of impact might vary for the countries, there could be a similar impact on health," he said.

Point 6:- The new study seeks to highlight the indirect effect of pollution on social welfare. "The damage air pollution has on aging brains likely imposes substantial health and economic cost, considering that cognitive functioning is critical for the elderly to both running daily errands and making big economic decisions," said Zhang. Cognitive decline or impairment. are risk factors of Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.

Requeste for you:-
We should not run pollution because of all this.  You are requested to please do not burn the Plastics or use it.  And tell others not to use Plastic.
